Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner/Degreaser Review
Simple Green is an all-purpose cleaner and degreaser that works on bikes.
You can find it in most department stores and hardware stores (because it works for many things besides bicycles.)
Pros: No doubt about it, Simple Green works. It’s great for cleaning most kinds of goo and gunk off your bike. The best part is how well it works to clean your rims.
It has a fairly pleasant smell, it’s Eco-friendly, and it’s safe on your hands. Plus, inexpensive.
Cons: It can get a bit sticky, so don’t use it on disc brake rotors.
The Final Word
This is my go-to degreaser for at least 80% of jobs, so I highly recommend it. Simple Green also sells a specialized bicycle cleaner, although I just use the all-purpose one. (If you can find the bicycle cleaner, it’s probably good too.)
I suggest buying a bottle of this, even if you only use it for cleaning rims.
Finish Line Ecotech Degreaser Review
This is a degreaser for cleaning bike parts. It is made to be strong enough for dirty, grimy parts, yet gentle enough for plastic and rubber seals.
Pros: It works well (even at low concentrations) and it smells pretty good.
I have been using a watered down mix of it in my Finish Line chain cleaner and it works as well as any other degreaser.
Cons: You might be able to find a cheaper alternative that works just as well.
The Final Word
This stuff is pretty good and works fine as a chain degreaser.
Notice: The Ecotech degreaser has been replaced by EcoTech2, called “Multi Degreaser.”
Dawn Dish Soap Review
Dawn dish soap is just that – soap for washing your dishes. However, Dawn’s grease-fighting power comes in handy for washing your bike, too.
Pros: It cleans grease off pans, and it works just as well on bikes. It manages to cut through all the grease and grime. Plus, it’s relatively inexpensive and a bottle will last a long time.
It doesn’t dry out your hands, either!
Cons: None.
The Final Word
This is the best bike washing soap I’ve used, and it’s cheap. I highly recommend using it.
